Die ersten acht der Concerti grossi, Opus 1, sind in der allgemeinen Form der Sonate oder des Concerto da chiesa gehalten, obschon das siebte die dreisätzige Form des venezianischen Konzerts annimmt. Die letzten vier Konzerte sind in der kontrastierten da camera-Form. Der Unterschied zwischen Kirchen- und Kammersonaten liegt in der allgemeinen Praxis des Wechsels langsamer Sätze mit fugierten Sätzen in der ersteren, während die letztere die Form einer Tanzsuite hat. Die von Locatelli verwendeten Formen entsprechen weitgehend denen des veröffentlichten Werkes von Corelli, wobei die achte Sonate ebenfalls ein Weihnachtskonzert ist und mit einem pastoralen Satz, einem Siciliano, endet, der an die Hirten von Bethlehem erinnert, eine weit verbreitete Konvention. Die letzten vier concerti grossi des Satzes behalten das allgemeine Muster des deutschen Tanzes, der Allemanda und der langsamen Sarabande bei und enden mit einem schnelleren Tanzsatz, dem konventionellen Gigueor und der weniger üblichen abschließenden Gavotte.
The first eight of the Concerti grossi, Opus 1, are in the general form of the sonata or concerto da chiesa, although the seventh adopts the three-movement form of the Venetian concerto. The last four concerti are in the contrasted da camera form. The distinction between church and chamber sonatas lies in the general practice of alternating slow movements with fugal movements in the former, while the latter is in the form of a dance suite. The forms used by Locatelli largely echo those in the published work of Corelli, with the eighth of the set also a Christmas concerto, ending with a pastoral movement, a Siciliano, suggesting the shepherds at Bethlehem, a convention widely followed. The last four concerti grossi of the set keep the general pattern of the German dance, the Allemanda and the slow Sarabande, ending with a quicker dance movement, the conventional Gigueor the less usual concluding Gavotte.
