Großes Chororatorium
Obwohl seinerzeit nicht weniger erfolgreich als Judas Maccabaeus, ist Joshua heutzutage sowohl im Konzert als auch auf Tonträger recht selten anzutreffen. Dabei wartet Händel auch hier mit eingängigen Melodien und überwältigenden Chorszenen auf (etwa beim Einsturz der Mauern von Jericho). Die Göttinger Händelfestspiele brachen 2014 eine Lanze für das vernachlässigte Stück und der Mitschnitt unter der Leitung von Laurence Cummings beweist eindrucksvoll, dass Joshua auch heute noch überzeugen und begeistern kann.
