Für seine Einspielung des Messiah entschied sich Stephen Cleobury 1994 für eine spätere Fassung mit vier Solisten (Sopran, Alt, Tenor und Bass), wie sie der Komponist 1752 für eine Wiederaufnahme in London geschaffen hatte. Hierfür stand ihm eine exzellente Solistenriege (u. a. John Mark Ainsley und Lynne Dawson) zur Verfügung, was diese Aufnahme zu einem der Höhepunkte in der Diskographie macht.
