Zum Shakespeare-Jahr 2016 veröffentlicht das Label TESTAMENT erstmals den BBC- Rundfunkmitschnitt der Uraufführung von Benjamin Brittens Oper A Midsummer Night’s Dream nach Shakespeares gleichnamiger Komödie im Rahmen des Aldeburgh Festivals am 11. Juni 1960.
Zwar existiert bereits – wie von den meisten seiner Bühnenwerke ‒ eine kommerzielle Studioproduktion, aber hier ist sozusagen die Tinte noch feucht, und die Frische von Brittens Dirigat gegenüber der Studioaufnahme von 1966 stellt das Konzept der endgültigen Fassung bzw. Aufnahme in Frage.
Ein schöner Beitrag zum Shakespeare-Jubiläum und eine bedeutende Ergänzung der Britten-Diskografie!
