He had received every major honor for mystery fiction, and the Western Writers of America honored him with the Wister Award for Lifetime achievement in 2008. He served as president of the prestigious Mystery Writers of America, and was honored with that groups Edgar Award and as one of mystery fictions Grand Masters. Anne Hillerman has been a journalist for twenty years and has received awards for her work from the National Federation of Press Women and the New Mexico Press Assocation. She is currently the director of Wordharvest Writers Workshops and the Tony Hillerman Writers Conference: Focus on Mystery. She lives in Santa Fe, NM.
