Blu-ray Audio

Die Blu-ray Audio Disc (auch Pure Audio Blu-ray) ist technisch gesehen eine ganz normale Blu-ray Disc und lässt sich auf jedem Blu-ray-Player abspielen. Allerdings enthält sie keinen Videoinhalt. Die hohe Speicherkapazität wird für hochauflösende Audiodaten (Stereo und Surround, bis 24 bit/192 kHz) genutzt. Bedient wird sie entweder ohne Bildschirm wie eine herkömmliche CD oder über das Onscreen-Menü wie eine normale Blu-ray Disc.

Blu-Ray Disc

Die Blu-Ray wurde als High-Definition-Nachfolger der DVD entwickelt und bietet ihrem Vorläufer gegenüber eine erheblich gesteigerte Datenrate und Speicherkapazität. Auf Blu-Rays können daher Filme mit deutlich besserer Auflösung gespeichert werden und bieten auf entsprechenden Bildschirmen eine enorm hohe Bildqualität. Blu-Ray-Player sind in der Regel abwärtskompatibel zu DVDs, so dass auch diese abgespielt werden können.

Acht Jahre, eine Box: »The Charisma Years«

Eine Box, die ihresgleichen sucht: Van Der Graaf Generator veröffentlichen 2021 ihr gesamtes aufgenommenes Werk für Charisma Records in einem gigantischen Box-Set. Dieses Paket enthält remasterte Alben, Bonustracks, BBC-Sessions, seltenes Videomaterial, neue Stereo-Remixe und 5.1-Surround-Versionen.

Die englische Prog-Rock-Band wurde 1967 in Manchester gegründet. In den Jahren von 1970 bis 1978 veröffentlichte die Band acht Alben (zwei davon unter dem Namen Van der Graaf) für das Label Charisma Records. Jede Platte war bahnbrechend und der Einfluss der einzigartigen Musik der Band sollte in den darauffolgenden Jahrzehnten von Künstlern vieler verschiedener musikalischer Genres zu spüren sein.

»The Charisma Years« kommt als 20-Disc-Box mit 17 CDs, zwei Blu-ray Audio und einer Blu-ray Disc. Das Set enthält alle Charisma-Alben:

Die Alben »H To He Who Am The Only One«, »Pawn Hearts«, »Godbluff« und »Still Life« wurden für die Wiederveröffentlichung von den originalen Mehrspurbändern in Stereo und 5.1 Surround Sound von Stephen W Tayler neu abgemischt. Alle CDs enthalten Bonustracks. Zudem warten in der Box weitere CDs mit einem bisher unveröffentlichten kompletten Konzert aus dem Jahr 1976 in Paris, sowie allen noch erhältlichen BBC-Sessions.

Die Blu-ray Disc enthält seltene und unveröffentlichte Videoaufnahmen. Es handelt sich dabei um alle überlebenden Fernseh- und Promofilmaufnahmen von Van Der Graaf Generator. Dazu gehören ihre Show im »Beat Club« 1970, ein Auftritt im Bataclan in Paris im Jahr 1972 für die französische TV-Show »Pop Deux«, ein Gig im »Pop Shop« für RTBF Belgien 1972, die Promofilme für »Wondering« und »Cat’s Eye« und eine 20-minütige Dokumentation mit Live-Material, das vom österreichischen Fernsehen beim »Kohfidisch Open Air Festival« in Österreich im Juni 1978 aufgenommen wurde.

Die beiden Blu-ray Audio bieten die Stereo-Mixes in Hi-Res und 5.1-Surround-Sound-Mixes von allen vier oben genannten Alben. Diese wurden ebenfalls von Stephen W. Tayler erstellt.

Abgerundet wird »The Charisma Years« von einem 68-seitigen Buch und seltenen Fotos.
