The Ventures, eine der ersten Gitarrenbands, waren die angesagteste Instrumentalband der USA, nachdem ihr Klassiker „Walk Don’t Run“ 1960 zum internationalen Hit wurde. Sie avancierten zur meistverkauften Instrumentalgruppe aller Zeiten mit über 100 Millionen verkauften Tonträgern! Man sagt sogar (zumindest von uns), dass sie The Shadows regelrecht in den Schatten stellten!
Ihre Blütezeit erlebten sie zweifellos in den 1960er-Jahren, als sie nach ihrem ersten Erfolg gemeinsam mit den Beach Boys und anderen Instrumentalbands wie Dick Dale und The Challengers auf der Welle des Westküsten-Surfings mitschwammen. Ihre Popularität ließ in den Siebzigern nach, doch dank Quentin Tarantino erlebten sie eine Renaissance und sind auch heute noch erfolgreich, wenn auch mit einer ganz anderen Besetzung!
