»Leftoverture« ist das vierte Album von Kansas;
ursprünglich erschienen im Jahr 1976.
Mit Steve Walsh,
der sich hier bei der Produktion zurücknahm, trat Kerry
Livgren in den Vordergrund und erhielt so viel der
klassisch inspirierten Komplexität der vorherigen
Werke von Livgren.
Das Album beginnt mit der
Hitsingle »Carry On Wayward Son«. Kenny Livgren
schrieb den Song als Fortsetzung des letzten Songs »The
Pinnacle« vom vorherigen Album »Masque«.
Rolling Stone kürte »Leftoverture« zum besten Album von
Kansas: »it warrants Kansas a spot right alongside
Boston and Styx as one of the fresh new American
bands who combine hard-driving group instrumentation
(with a dearth of fl ashy solos) with short, tight melody
lines and pleasant singing.«
