Die achte Folge der Serie handelt von Jason, der eine Gruppe von Highschool-Absolventen auf einem Schiff nach New York City verfolgt.
Die Filmmusik wurde von Fred Mollin komponiert, der mit dem langjährigen Freitag der 13. Komponisten Harry Manfredini zusammenarbeitete bei der vorherigen Folge, »Friday the 13th Part VII«: The New Blood. Jason Takes Manhattan war der erste Film der Reihe, bei dem Manfredini nicht für die Filmmusik verantwortlich zeichnete. Die Abkehr von traditionell verwendeten Streichern und Bläsern ist Mollins Partitur zu Jason Takes Manhattan auf elektronischer Basis und verwendet digitale Keyboards und Synthesizer, die zu dieser Zeit sehr beliebt waren.
