Sonic Youth sind Institution und Legende zugleich. Ihre Debüt EP, die es jetzt als Re-Issue in der Deluxe-Doppel-LP-Version zu haben gibt, wurde 1981 in der Radio City Music Hall aufgenommen.
Ursprünglich erschien die Platte auf dem Neutral Label von Glenn Branca. »Sonic Youth« ist eine lockere Verarbeitung der Kompositionen, die die gerade erst gegründete Band auf dem einwöchigen Noisefest Event spielte - die einzige Aufnahme, die den Schauspieler Ricard Edson am Schlagzeug zeigt. Das frisch remasterte Vinyl kommt komplett mit Livematerial aus dem Jahre 1981 und einem Track von einer Studiosession, der niemals vorher das Tageslicht gesehen haben dürfte.
Sonic Youth's eponymous debut EP, reissued in a deluxe double- LP edition on the band's own Goofin imprint, was recorded in late 1981 at Radio City Music Hall in NYC and originally released on composer Glenn Branca's Neutral label. The album is loosely based on compositions the newly formed group had performed at that year's week-long Noisefest event (and remains the only recorded document of an early line-up featuring actor Richard Edson on drums).
