So says Ras Smaila, lead singer, guitarist and composer of the brilliant Paris based 8 piece band, "Serial Groovaz", in his introduction to their new album, "TRUE STORY", released throughout the UK and Europe on 28th March by DixieFrog Records.
There's 14 stonking new tracks, all produced by Ras Smaila. Eleven have been written by Ras himself, plus there's a startling version of Jimi Hendrix's "Stone Free", a heartfelt reworking of Robert Johnson's "Cross Road" and a labour of love on "Zombie" by Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
The opening track, and title of the album, "True Story, Blues Story", was inspired by Martin Luther King and Malcolm X actually shaking hands, which is reproduced on the cover. Musically the album rocks (sitting still is not an option), yet lyrically we are taken on an emotional journey through the advent of slavery to the rising up of the African pride and culture through decades of freedom fighters and musicians.
In these crucial times of strife and frustration, Ras Smaila's message is clear.
"I wanna tune your mind on a new way of thinking, switch your soul on a new way of feeling and set your heartbeat on the right pace for loving..."
The record will be distributed in France by Night & Day and throughout the UK and Europe by Discovery Records of Devizes, Wiltshire.
In May, Ras Smaila will headline a nationwide "World of Blues" tour throughout France, organised by Philippe Langlois from DixieFrog Records, to promote three new releases by DixieFrog artists. Then later on in May the band will be touring Senegal, culminating in a headline appearance at the "Bouki Blues Festival" in St Louis.
Following their success at the Great British R&B Festival and the Notting Hill Carnival back in the summer of 2000, Ras Smaila is looking to build on his loyal UK following by touring later this year.
