"The best years of our life?" enthält teils bisher völlig unbekannte Stücke, teils schon veröffentlichte, aber in anderen Fassungen.
Nine Days’ Wonder, living in a Mannheim community, recorded four LPs on the Bacillus label between 1971 and 1976. Their music is characterised by permanent rhythm changes and breaks, giving the impression of a very restless and nervous mood, definitely influenced by bands such as Mothers of Invention, King Crimson, VDGG, Soft Machine, Supersister, Moving Gelatine Plates and by free jazz. Their first recording effort, originally released in the famous green foam cover, was highly acclaimed. Towards the end, after many changes in their line-up, they produced mainly mainstream music. "The best years of our life?" partly contains unreleased tracks, partly released efforts but in different versions. Walter Seyffer, founder and most important member of the band, explains every detail of their history in the 32-page colour booklet.
