A clever mixture of rock and the classics distinguishes the first album by the Scottish progressive rock band. Originally released on the Vertigo label in 1970, this is a concept album of historic importance within prog rock circles. Beggars Opera produced a richly varied programme of ambitious music. The band featured lead singer Martin Griffiths, backed by keyboard player Alan Park and versatile guitarist Ricky Gardiner. Among the highlights is Suppé’s popular classics ‘Poet And Peasant’ and ‘Light Cavalry’. We have added two bonus tracks to the CD, including the single ‘Sarabande’.
