Two original albums from 1969 and 1971, full of seminal funk sides like 'Grab This Thing', 'In The Hole' and 'Humpin''.
Frankly you have no option- you just 'gotta groove' to the sounds of the Bar-Kays. One-time 'on the road' backing group for Otis Redding, several of the original members were killed in the same tragic air disaster that killed the all time soul man. The surviving members kept going and produced albums well into the 70s. These two were produced for Stax, from 1969 & 1971 respectively and feature such seminal funk sides as "Grab This Thing", "Funky Thang", "In The Hole", "Humpin' and a funkified run at Sam & Dave's "You Don't Know Like I Know". With a dress sense that could compete with Funkadelic at their height and today looks like the height of fashion, The Bar-Kays' style and music typify the 70s - they may be kitch, but they sure did play as tight as a bad fitting afro-wig.
