Stan Getz's hauntingly beautiful tenor saxophone sound and formidable musical imagination captured the hearts of listeners, garnered the respect of fellow musicians, earned raves from critics, and even propelled him to the top of the pop charts.
This collection, which spans the years 1951 to 1991, includes some of the highlights of Getz's recording career. It showcases him in settings ranging from intimate duets with pianist Kenny Barron to the elaborate orchestrations of Eddie Sauter. It finds him teamed with his fellow jazz giants Dizzy Gillespie, J. J. Johnson, and Chick Corea, as well as with bossa nova masters Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao and Astrud Gilberto. In short, it paints as complete a portrait as you will find on a single disc of one of the greatest saxophonists jazz has ever known.
