Der rumänische Pianist Radu Lupu hatte eine große Fangemeinde in der ganzen Welt. Bei seinen seltenen Auftritten im Konzertsaal war das Publikum voll mit hochkarätigen Künstlern. Er war ein Meister der Lyrik und konnte das Klavier wie kein anderer zum Flüstern bringen.

Lupu mied die Aufmerksamkeit der Medien, seine Diskographie ist nicht sehr umfangreich, aber jede seiner Aufnahmen hatte eine Aura der Spiritualität und des Besonderen. Decca ist stolz darauf, eine einzigartige Zusammenstellung von Aufnahmen zu präsentieren - Material, das noch nie zuvor offiziell veröffentlicht wurde - von »verlorenen Bändern« in den Decca-Archiven bis hin zu Aufnahmen, die von Radiosendern in aller Welt stammen.

Das 6 CD-Set enthält ausschließlich Werke, die Lupu zuvor nicht aufgenommen hatte, und wird anlässlich des 80. Geburtstags des Pianisten im November veröffentlicht. Die Einspielungen in dieser Box erstrecken sich über mehr als 30 Jahre, die früheste (Chopin) 1970 in Leeds, nachdem er dort im Jahr zuvor beim Klavierwettbewerb von Leeds triumphiert hatte, die jüngste (Debussy) als Zugabe bei einem Konzert in Deutschland im Jahr 2002. Das Booklet enthält einen faszinierenden Beitrag der renommierten Klavierspezialistin Jessica Duchen, Fotos aus dem Decca-Archiv (mehrere bisher unveröffentlichte) sowie Würdigungen von Künstlern und Freunden, die ihn kannten und mit ihm gearbeitet haben, darunter Lang Lang, Daniel Barenboim, Stephen Hough.
