„Jóhann Jóhannsson: Piano Works“, eingespielt von der Pianistin Alice Sara Ott, ist eine Auswahl der berühmtesten Werke des verstorbenen isländischen Komponisten – neu interpretiert für Solo-Klavier. Diese Weltersteinspielungen sind eindringlich schöne Interpretationen, die das Wesen von Jóhannssons Musik perfekt einfangen. Die Hommage an einen der visionärsten und preisgekrönten Komponisten Hollywoods umfasst 30 Stücke. Die Sammlung enthält Musik aus seinen Filmpartituren wie The Theory of Everything (Die Entdeckung der Unendlichkeit) und Personal Effects sowie aus seinen Studioalben wie Orphée und Englabörn. Ott, bekannt für ihr poetisches Spiel und ihre Vielseitigkeit, erschafft hier ihre eigene, neue Klangwelt. Da sie nie die Gelegenheit hatte, Jóhannsson persönlich kennenzulernen, verbrachte sie die Vorbereitungszeit für die Aufnahmen mit einigen seiner Weggefährten. Darunter war auch der Grammy-nominierte Produzent und Toningenieur Bergur Þórisson, der das Album in seinem Studio in Reykjavík produzierte. Die Einblicke, die sie durch diese Gespräche gewann, vertieften ihre Liebe zu Jóhannssons Musik. „Seine musikalische Sprache besitzt eine ganz besondere Intimität und Dringlichkeit“, sagt sie. „Sie spricht genau das an, wonach sich die Menschen in der heutigen lauten und manchmal sehr dissonanten Welt sehnen.“
