Das junge österreichische Renaissancemusik-Ensemble »Mikado« um die Blockflötistin Maja Osojnik, die für das Jahr 2008 als »Bank Austria Artist of the Year« ausgezeichnet wurde, stellt Musik aus der Zeit vor, als England die Weltmeere beherrschte und den Welthandel kontrollierte, aber auch eine kulturelle Blütezeit erlebte: Königin Elisabeth I. inszenierte ihre Macht mit theatralischem Aufwand, wozu auch ein Liebesdiskurs zählte, den sie bewußt förderte.
Das Schreiben über das Phänomen der Liebe erhält einen quasi öffentlichen Charakter und ist auch als Spiegel der Zeit zu verstehen. In den hier ausgewählten Kompositionen verschafft sich die geliebte, die heiratswillige, die fromme, die verschmähte, die unnahbare und die ersehnte Frau Gehör.
