This catalog represents a first documentation of the internationally renowned bird collection belonging to ornithologist Ernst Gloyer (1927-2011). He began building his collection at an early age, and it now comprises more than 1, 000 specimens. Gloyer placed particular emphasis on ensuring that his specimens were mounted in a natural, lifelike manner and on covering a wide range of species. In addition to collecting, he was deeply committed to the observation and conservation of nature-for example, addressing losses of habitat caused by draining meadows and wetlands, straightening rivers, or the silting up of lakes. The specimens are also a vital resource for research: modern analytical methods provide insights into changes in biodiversity, genetic relationships, and current environmental pressures. They are also used as visual aids in exhibitions and educational programs, as well as in university teaching. Since 2023, the collection has been housed at the Landesmuseum Natur und Mensch Oldenburg.
