Klappentext
As the world's urban population continues to grow, creating healthy, resilient, and liveable cities has become one of the defining challenges of the twenty-first century. Addressing this challenge requires a holistic approach that brings together public health, urban planning, environmental and climate protection, architecture, mobility, governance, culture, and civic participation.
This volume presents the proceedings of the International Urban Health Summit 2025, bringing together leading scientists, policymakers, urban planners, architects, public health experts, artists, cultural practitioners, and representatives of civil society from around the world. It demonstrates that urban health extends far beyond healthcare alone. Rather, it provides a strategic framework for achieving the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and for shaping democratic, inclusive, and future-ready cities.
Combining scientific evidence with innovative case studies and practical examples, the book explores topics such as climate-resilient urban development, healthy urban planning, environmental justice, participatory governance, cultural engagement, and transformative approaches to city-making. Particular attention is given to interdisciplinary collaboration, the translation of scientific knowledge into policy and practice, and the role of major future-oriented initiatives-such as the proposed World Expo in 2035 in the Berlin-Brandenburg Metropolitan Region-as catalysts for long-term societal transformation.
By bringing together diverse scientific perspectives and practical experience across sectors, this volume provides valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and civic leaders committed to creating healthier, more equitable, and more liveable urban environments for the future.
