Klappentext
An identification guide to angels and the stories in which they feature through their depiction in awe-inspiring artworks, all of which can be found in public collections around the world.
This pocketbook-sized identification guide presents 75 iconic paintings featuring angels and identifies in close-up details the iconography of the named angel or the key symbols depicted in the image of the story in which an unnamed angel features. Grouped by type of angel, each painting is paired with a concise text and at-a-glance listing revealing the provenance and role of the angel in Jewish, Christian, Islamic and folk beliefs. Every image presented can be viewed in situ in a church, gallery or museum. The book closes with a city-by-city listing of key artworks featuring angels that can be viewed around the world.
