THE COLOUR FIELD wurden im Sommer 1983 von Terry Hall, dem ehemaligen Sänger der Specials und Fun Boy Three, zusammen mit dem Ex-Organisten der Swinging Cats, Toby Lyons, und dem Bassisten Karl Shale gegründet.
Die Band veröffentlichte in drei Jahren nur zwei Alben (»Virgins and Philistines«, 1985, und »Deception«, 1987) sowie sieben Singles. Vom selbstbetitelten Debütalbum »The Colour Field« im Januar 1984 bis hin zu einer Coverversion von The Monkees' »She« im Jahr 1987, deren Single »Thinking of You« in Großbritannien ein Hit wurde.
Diese Box mit 96 Titeln enthält 42 bisher unveröffentlichte Tracks und vereint zwei Alben mit ihren B-Seiten und Remixen, neu gemastert von den Originalbändern. Zwei CDs mit unveröffentlichten Demos, Outtakes und Live-Konzerten sind ebenfalls enthalten. Zusätzlich gibt es eine DVD mit allen Promo-Videos und BBC-Fernsehauftritten.
Das Ganze ist in einem Mediabook im DVD-Format verpackt und enthält ein neu geführtes Interview von John Earls (Classic Pop / Schallplattensammler) mit Toby Lyons und Karl Shale sowie Archivinterviews mit Terry Hall, zusammen mit bisher unveröffentlichten Fotos und Erinnerungsstücken.
