Audio-Mastering und das Layout für »Battleground Korea« wurde kürzlich fertiggestellt, und wir können nun die Veröffentlichung dieses Projektes für Ende März 2018 auf Bear Family (wo es hingehört) ankündigen. Das gebundene Buch wird in einem stabilen Schuber (ca. 28 x 28 cm), ähnlich dem des aktuellen Woody Guthrie »Tribute Concerts«-Sets, erscheinen. Es wird detaillierte Hintergrundinformationen zu jedem der etwa 100 in der Ausgabe enthaltenen Songs geben, dazu Künstlerbiographien und Extra-Kapitel mit Transkriptionen der Texte, illustriert mit Fotos jener Zeit, Anzeigen, Flyern, Magazinen, Plattenhüllen, Buchumschlägen und anderen Erinnerungsstücken.
Zu den besonderen Kapiteln des Buches gehören ein Interview mit Frankie Miller, der sich an seine Zeit in Korea erinnert, und ein neunseitiger Abschnitt mit Fotos und Zeitungsüberschriften, in dem Marilyn Monroes Besuch bei den Truppen beschrieben wird.
Zur Zeit des Waffenstillstandsabkommens von 1953, das den Krieg beendete, befanden sich noch etwa 327.000 US-Soldaten in Korea. Im Laufe des Jahres 1954 wurde diese Zahl um mehr als 30% auf knapp über 225.000 reduziert. Viele dieser Truppen hatten das Glück, Marilyn Monroe während ihrer viertägigen USO-Tournee durch die Militärbasen im Februar von 1954 zu sehen. Viele der Fotos von Marilyn, die in Korea ihre »patriotische Pflicht« für Tausende von dankbaren Soldaten erfüllte, wurden erst kürzlich in den Archiven der US-Armee gefunden und sind zuvor selten gesehen worden.
