Two soul brothers back to back on these Swamp Dogg produced originals with the addition of two non LP cuts, making this CD an absolute must for southern soul fans.
Two generous slices of soul (vintage 1971 ) and the thing that unites them is the presence of producer Jerry Williams Jnr or Swamp Dogg as he is better known. Both albums were recorded at Quin Ivy' s studio in Sheffield, Alabama and then given the Swamp touch by overdubbing with strings and backing singers in Philadelphia and New York, respectively. ZZ Hill's was a kind of concept album, organised on the opening 5 tracks into Blues At The Opera. Both albums sold well and produced hit singles: Hill with The Chokin' Kind (fall 1971), Second Chance (summer '72) and It Ain't No Use (late '72) while North succeeded with She's All I Got (fall '71, later covered by country singer Johnny Paycheck) and You And Me Together Forever (in early '72). Also included here as bonus tracks are the Swamp Dogg-penned Cuss The Wind and Johnny Bristol-Harvey Fuqua-penned My Whole World Ended (Without You).
Hill died tragically in 1984, just as success was coming for his recordings for Malaco. North is now rumoured to be working as a DJ.
