ROLLING STONE ALBUM GUIDE ***1/2 "'The Blues Never Die!' features Spann on piano throughout its 11 cuts, and on vocals one five tracks. There's not a missed step here, as the blues delivered by Spann and his esti- mable cohorts - who include James Cotton on harmonica and vocals and a guitarist whose 'nom de disc' of "Dirty Rivers" does little to disguise the source of the distinctive, stinging lines that crop up - blow red hot and blue through some Cotton originals, Elmore James' "Dust My Broom" and Willie Dixon's "I'm Ready".
