»Texas Gypsy Fire« portrays the history of the Gypsy culture and its presence in Texas.
Oliver Rajamani born in India, was listening to Country & Western Music while he grew up. Only later on, when he moved to Texas, he startet to discover and study Indian Instruments. All those influences are melting to a dynamic mixture on his album. Oliver Rajamani represents the multicultural life and sounds of modern-day Texas - the fusion of Country, Western and Gypsy music.
Sung in English sprinkled with German, Romani, Spanish and colorful tongues from India, Rajamani’s poetic and spiritual lyrics speak about his home life in Texas as well as love, loss and divinity.
Oliver Rajamani accompanies himself on such exotic instruments as the flamenco guitar, the sarod, the oud, the rebab and others, and is backed by traditional Texas musicians in cowboy hats and boots performing on the violin, drums, percussion, bass and keys.
»Texas Gypsy Fire« is musically supported by Texas legends such as Willie Nelson, Eric Johnson, Edie Brickell, Cindy Cashdollar, Dale Watson, Carolyn Wonderland, Freddie Kaydahzinne (a descendant of Cochise, Chief of the Apache Indians) as well as Gypsy artists such as Dotschy Reinhardt from Germany (from the famous Django Reinhardt family), Kalman Balogh (Hungarian Gypsy) and many more.
Oliver Rajamani, a native of TamilNadu, India, is a renowned world music artist who is credited for keeping alive: the ancient Tamil folk music and culture, the nomadic and devotional musical styles of India. Music critics have distinguished Rajamani as an artist who has redefined Roma / Gypsy Music by taking it back to India (homeland of the Roma / Gyspy) to its original roots and literally destroying borders.
In addition to his successful solo career, Oliver Rajamani has performed and recorded with international artists such as Willie Nelson (Texas Country artist), the Gypsy Kings (Grammy winners and Rumba Flamenco), Edie Brickell (American singer-songwriter), Eric Johnson (American guitar legend and Grammy winner), Glen Velez (Grammy winner), Joel Guzman (Grammy, Conjunto music), Arthur Brown (the God of Hell Fire - Rock’n‘Roll legend) and more. He has also performed for the Maharajah (king) of Jhodpur, India.
He has had the great honor of meeting and playing for Paco De Lucia (the Flamenco master) and Dr. Vijayalakshmi Navaneedhakrishnan (an Indian Tamil folk singer), and has been an honorary Austin, Texas celebrity guest at many events where he has sung on stage with Texas stars such as Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Ray Benson, Eric Johnson, Shawn Colvin and others.
Rajamanis music has also been used in many movies, including Turk Pipkin’s Nobelity. He released his book of poems »The Red Road« in the spring of 2012.
Rajamani has provided musical accompaniment to great poets and storytellers such as Coleman Barks, Robert Bly, David Whyte, Neomi Shihab and renowned German children author Paul Maar.
Oliver Rajamani was a 2008 nominee for the US Artist-Award and the winner of the 2000 World Music Award of Austin, Texas.
