The house that founder Bill Curtis built, the Fatback Band (or just plain Fatback as they became in 1982), has sometimes been a 6-piece and sometimes anything up to a 9-piece band. Their records for Spring and Event are classics of the 70s and '80s dance scene, packed with "party" atmosphere, undoubtedly aided by the "live" feel that the band induced by always having an audience at their recording sessions. On The Floor came out in 1982, and contains the R&B hits On The Floor (1 weeks on the chart, peaking at No 36) and She's My Shining Star (5 weeks on the chart, peaking at No 76).
