Als Nachfolger der Blu-ray Disc ist die Ultra HD Blu-ray ein optischer Datenspeicher für Filme im Ultra-High-Definition-Format. Die namensgebende Ultra-HD-Auflösung beträgt maximal 3840 × 2160 Pixel. Im Gegensatz zum Vorgänger werden zudem ein hoher Kontrastumfang, eine höhere Bildwiederholrate und ein größerer Farbraum unterstützt. Normale Blu-ray-Player können die neuen Medien nicht wiedergeben. Ultra-HD-Blu-ray-fähige Geräte sind in der Regel abwärtskompatibel.
