Dieses Album, das ursprünglich als »Little Girl Blue on Bethlehem« (SBCP6028)
veröffentlicht wurde, war Nina Simones erstes Album und erste Studioaufnahme
überhaupt.
Als sie 25 Jahre alt war, war es ein großer Erfolg und führte zu einer enormen Karriere, die mehr als 80 Studiosessions hervorbringen sollte. Nachdem Nina Simone diese Tracks aufgenommen hatte, hat sie zwei Jahre nicht mehr aufgenommen und kehrte schließlich 1959 mit einem großen Orchester unter der Leitung von Bob Mersey ins Studio zurück. Die Karriere der Sängerin endete 1993, als sie ihre letzten Sessions mit einem Sextett in Los Angeles abhielt.
Sie starb am 21. April 2003 in Frankreich.
Released in June 1958, this LP (originally issued as Little Girl Blue on Bethlehem BCP-6028) marked Nina Simone’s first studio recording ever. It features the singer / pianist backed by bassist Jimmy Bond (who had been a member of the Chet Baker Quartet among other groups) and drummer Albert »Tootie« Heath (one of the celebrated Heath brothers, along with saxophonist Jimmy Heath, and bassist Percy Heath). Many of the tracks from this LP would become true classics, among them her perennial versions of »My Baby Just Cares For Me« and »I Loves You, Porgy«.
