Second album for Doctor 3 (Danilo Rea - piano, Enzo Pietropaoli - bass, Fabrizio Sferra - drums), very awaited album, as »second opera« of the group who did so much talked about in, following the success of the first CD »The Tales of Doctor 3« (VVJ 016) Prize Arrigo Polillo (best Italian jazz record) last »Top Jazz«.
Although it is a recently formed group, the relationship between the three musicians is longstanding, with music and human attendance for more than twenty years: reason that explains the extraordinary team spirit that animates the trio, who musically translates into that interplay which constitutes the figure essential language, so original as to be considered revolutionary.
Born after two days of studio's work (15 and 16 June 1999) this album, more than the previous, it is an album of »cover« which reproduce songs from pop / rock / modern jazz: and its six »Songs«, plus 5 tracks »independent«, it divides the work of standards revision. The repertoire chosen chronologically widens to include songs like Danny Boy, Put the Blame on Mame, L'Uomo in Frac, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas until the Song # 5, a tribute to Charlie Parker, to embrace more generations of our music century.
Compared to the previous work, less space is reserved to the free and torrential improvisation to privilege the form-song and the melodic aspect, while maintaining the principle of »instinct work « (primarily, the choice of songs promptly rejected, according to submissions by the musicians) and not giving up those intriguing quotations and references to other songs that characterize the language of Doctor 3.
Therefore unchanged in the spirit, the work of the group is located right in line with what has already become their »tradition«: the absence of the »tracklist« which translates into freedom and spontaneity, the pleasure of playing together to hear the growing 'harmony, the play »outmanoeuvre« one another with quotes, love for the music that dominates and unites the three (Rea and Pietropaoli lovers of pop / rock, Sferra taste more »classic«). A disc of great beauty and poetry that manages to be, according to the personality of the musicians, even humorously.
