Theresa van Lith: Living Stories Through Art, Gebunden

Klappentext

This book from a leading Australian practitioner explores how artistic practice offers a profound means of self-exploration, emotional resilience, and healing using the objects we create to help us understand ourselves in ways words cannot.

Living Stories blends neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, and art therapy to examine the rich connections between creativity and human experience and explain how the arts can be used therapeutically. It argues that art pieces created by those engaged in the art making process imbue the subsequent objects with anthropomorphic meaning and human-like attributes to which the artist can both relate and consider an extension of who they are. Art therapists can use this understanding to assist the creator in developing connections, self-reflection, empathy with the natural world and environs, and meaning making and strengthening resilience, awareness and connection. Through both theory and practice, engaging case studies, and hands-on exercises, Living Stories explores how shaping and interacting with art can externalise emotions, clarify personal narratives, and foster a deeper sense of identity. Whether crafting a personal guide, engaging in dialogue with an artwork, or transforming a past creation to reflect growth, this book guides readers in cultivating a meaningful relationship with their art. By seeing their creations as companions, reflections, and evolving narratives, readers and their clients will discover new ways to connect with themselves and the world around them.

This guide will enable art therapists and mental health practitioners to better integrate creative practices into their work, and will benefit educators and students in related disciplines. Additionally, it offers insights to artists and individuals engaged in personal creative exploration, particularly those looking to deepen their understanding of how art aids self-reflection and healing.
