Theorizing Cinema's Multiple Globalizations, Kartoniert / Broschiert

Klappentext

This groundbreaking collection examines various manifestations of globalization in cinema, challenging the notion of its decline by examining how films across continents capture, resist, and reimagine our interconnected world through multiple theoretical lenses and regional perspectives.

Theorizing Cinema's Multiple Globalizationsexplores a plenitude of entanglements with globalization and deglobalization in films that actualize them: through a village trial of the World Bank in Mali, linguistic play in Nigeria, class and gender issues in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, transnational crime in Australia, anime coproductions between Japan and India, deglobalization in Romania and Hungry, big world global cinema from Tollywood, indigeneity in Polar communities, new global science fiction in South Korea, issues of environmentalism in Brazil, and depictions of waning American empire. Careful never to conceive world cinema as civilization in bulk, the book deploys multiple globalizations and deglobalization not as aberrations of each other but rather as interconnected concepts that share in the capabilities to mine and intuit a multitude of micro, meso, and macro potentialities.

This book is written for advanced film studies scholars, graduate students, and researchers working at the intersection of cinema and globalization theory. It will be particularly relevant for upper-level courses in world cinema, global media studies, and comparative cultural studies.
