Klappentext
The Oxford Handbook of Voice Pedagogy frames and defines the current state of the field and charts the direction of the discipline moving toward the middle of the 21st century. This book seeks to inform teachers of singing, teachers of voice pedagogy, choral educators, speech pathologists, and advanced students in these disciplines, with elevating the standard of knowledge and its application in the field as its goal. The Oxford Handbook of Voice Pedagogy marks the continuation of OUP's exploration of vocal music making. It expands upon ideas and issues presented in The Oxford Handbook of Music Education, The Oxford Handbook of Choral Pedagogy , and The Oxford Handbook of Singing, and introduces new topics, such as teaching transgender singers, teaching voice online, and disability and accessibility in the studio. Additionally, it addresses the impact of global challenges such as climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic on teaching singing. The book draws on both established international experts and those on the cutting edge of research and practice in the field. It will engage readers with its breadth of topics, its wide range of authors, its advocacy for placing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice at the forefront of modern voice pedagogy, and its discussion of multiple styles and genres.
The Oxford Handbook of Voice Pedagogy will be the first book to examine how singing is taught from an international perspective, and in doing so, it will value all stakeholders in the field. To date, most texts in the field focus on the physiology, acoustics, and biomechanics of singing voice production, provide guidance on how to sing, describe trends in performance, or discuss the impact of singing on society. In contrast, while this book draws upon these disparate lenses for viewing the singing voice, its focus is on teaching singing. The Handbook of Voice Pedagogy accomplishes this goal through organized and curated essays from active teacher-scholars who are uniquely qualified to speak about voice pedagogy: the art and practice of teaching others how to teach singing.
