Sonia Velton: Death's Confection, Kartoniert / Broschiert

Klappentext

In the winter of 1732, the town of Weslova has learnt with horror that the dead do not always remain buried.

For four years, Floriane has lived quietly, running her beautiful confectionary shop and taking care of her equally beautiful cat, Biskittello. The exquisite cordials and comfits she sells have made her indispensable to the life of the town - and helped keep her own past carefully sugared over.

But a string of inexplicable deaths, including a young mother and her baby, fills the town with dread. The townspeople turn their suspicions toward the first to die - Daniel Bosko, a man whispered to be a creature of darkness even before his brutal end. His body is exhumed from the frozen earth with fresh blood spilling from his mouth, confirming age-old fears of vampyrism. When the ritual staking and burning that follows does nothing to stop the deaths, fear turns to terror.

Imperial officer Johannes Flckinger is sent to investigate, determined to uncover the truth. Yet in Weslova, truth is slippery. The town leader rules through fear and intimidation, and his beautiful young wife, Violeta, has come to rely on Floriane's cordials. As Flckinger grapples with the horrifying significance of his findings, Floriane - who knows far more about hunger and blood than she dares reveal - is about to find out that while sweetness can prove irresistible, every appetite has a cost.

Steeped in folklore and legend,Death's Confection is a deeply atmospheric novel about love, longing - and vampyres.
