Biografie
Simone Weil (1909-1943) studierte u.a. bei Alain Philosophie, dessen Religions- und Moralphilosophie sie nachhaltig prägte. 1931 trat sie ihr erstes Lehramt in Le Puy an, wo sie in der Gewerkschaftsbewegung aktiv war. 1936 engagierte sie sich auf Seiten der Republikaner im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg. Neben einer ständigen publizistischen Tätigkeit arbeitete sie als Fabrik- und Hilfsarbeiterin. 1942 gelangte Simone Weil auf der Flucht vor der Gestapo über Amerika nach London, wo sie als Redakteurin von 'France libre' arbeitete und trotz ihres schlechten Gesundheitszustandes plante, sich als Krankenschwester an die Front versetzen zu lassen. Sie starb 1943 in London. In deutscher Sprache wurde ihr Werk verstreut veröffentlicht.
