Robyn Featherbottom: Medieval Birds, Gebunden

Klappentext

MEDIEVAL BIRDS gathers more than 100 feather'd fools and wing'd wonders, as chronicled in the crudest and most curious annals of history: illuminated manuscripts. Long before field guides and high-definition photography, our avian cousins were rendered in ink, gold and no small measure of imagination by monks, scribes and noble doodlers.

Drawing upon scores of illuminated manuscripts, marginalia and bestiaries, sourced from universities and libraries across the known world, MEDIEVAL BIRDS presents a finely curated flock of comical avian life, great and small. From noble birds of prey to meddlesome domestic fowl, exotic songbirds to beasts of myth and legend, and from omens of death to winged creatures that never drew breath at all, this is a gathering most strange. All of them, without exception, brilliant and bonkers. As with MEDIEVAL CATS and RENAISSANCE DOGS, each illuminated image is paired with a witty one-liner, making this the perfect gift for all birdwatchers and feather-loving folk across the globe.
