Chantal Thomas wurde 1945 in Lyon geboren. In den letzten Jahren hat sie bereits zahlreiche Bücher publiziert, u. a. über de Sade, Thomas Bernhard und Casanova. Besonders intensiv hat sich die Historikerin mit dem 18. Jahrhundert befaßt. Zur Zeit forscht sie am renommierten C.N.R.S. in Paris.
