R. A. Sweeney: Praying with the Gospel Accounts, Kartoniert / Broschiert

Klappentext

Prayer is one of those things. We know we should do it, and maybe even want to. We see others do it, and maybe we do it ourselves. For some, it is a discipline or a habit, but for others, it is a struggle. But would any of us say we are great at it?

Continue the Praying with the Bible Series with a journey through the heart of the New Testament: Praying with the Gospel Accounts invites readers to encounter the prayers, praises, petitions, and conversations with God woven throughout Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Rather than approaching the Gospel accounts only as records of Jesus' life and ministry, this book helps readers hear them as invitations into a life of prayer shaped by the words and actions of Christ and those who encountered Him. Through the Gospel narratives, we learn to pray with faith, dependence, thanksgiving, surrender, and hope.

Praying with the Gospel Accounts pays attention to the rich variety of prayer found throughout the Gospels. Readers will explore the worship of Mary and Zechariah, the cries of the desperate who sought Jesus's help, the prayers of thanksgiving and blessing offered by Jesus, His teachings on persistent prayer, and His agonizing prayers from Gethsemane and the cross. Above all, the Gospel accounts reveal Jesus Himself as the perfect model of communion with the Father. These are the prayers of the kingdom of God. Enter into them. Pray with them. And allow your own prayer life to be shaped by the One who taught His disciples to pray.

Whether you are new to praying with Scripture or have spent years studying the Gospel accounts, Praying with the Gospel Accounts will deepen your ability to listen to the voice of Jesus and respond in prayer. Each prayer becomes a doorway into an aspect of discipleship and fellowship with God, helping the Gospel accounts become more than stories about Jesus-they become companions that teach us to trust, worship, persevere, and draw near to the Father through the Son.

Praying with the Gospel Accounts is the sixth installment of the Praying with the Bible Series. This series presents prayer in a way unlike anything else. Rather than leading readers in reiterating scripted prayers, this book explores how the Bible presents prayer, in both positive and negative perspectives. If you're searching for a comprehensive look at the way the Bible presents how to pray-and if you want to learn from the earliest followers of God how the practice of prayer is intended to be used-then you'll cherish Praying with the Gospel Accounts as an indispensable resource.
