Primo Levi: The Collected Poems of Primo Levi, Gebunden

Klappentext

Publishing on the fortieth anniversary of the Italian writer's death, The Collected Poems of Primo Levi , translated by the prize-winning poet Jonathan Galassi, gathers these timeless poems to retrieve the "groans of grieving ghosts." Remarkably written between 1943 and 1987, the last one written only months before Levi's untimely death, these poems challenge Theodor Adorno's famous declaration that "after Auschwitz there can be no poetry." Stating that his experience was the opposite, Levi, who believed that "poetry was certainly born before prose," infused his poems with an emotional rawness, moral outrage, and Biblical prophecy. As Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison tellingly observed in her introduction to Levi's The Complete Works , "melancholy and sorrow often reside more in his poetry than his prose." Decades later, The Collected Poems of Primo Levi now calls out to us to "secrete poetic matter, robust or bloodless, eternal or ephemeral . . . for the universe."
