Post-War Angola, Gebunden

Klappentext

This book assesses the long-term impacts of one of the longest wars in modern history: the 27-year Angolan Civil War. The book considers what happens when war ends, and how the invisible costs of conflict can be felt even decades afterwards.

Considering the effects of the war from various angles and perspectives, the book uncovers the multiple layers of disadvantage caused by conflict, but also the resourcefulness of Angolans as they continue to adapt. The Angolan Civil War started immediately after the end of Portuguese colonisation, and left a million people dead, and 4 million displaced. Over 17 chapters, this volume demonstrates how this trauma has continued to shape the country across key areas such as education, gender inequality, migration, urbanisation, law, and biodiversity. As armed conflict continues to threaten lives across the world, the book considers what Angola can teach us about the long-term problems war creates for future generations.

This book will be an important read for researchers studying African development, and war and conflict studies more generally.
