Peter Curran: The Sound of Trouble, Gebunden

Klappentext

A warm, rich childhood memoir of growing up in Northern Ireland in the 70s and 80s by celebrated writer and broadcaster, Peter Curran.

Peter Curran grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland as the only boy of six siblings with an often absent father. His coming of age story, set during the turmoil and chaos of The Troubles, known internationally as the Northern Ireland conflict, in the 1970s and 80s is a rich and beautiful memoir of a young lad trying to understand the world he lives in.

The Sound of Trouble tells the story of Peter's childhood living in an unstable home against the tense background. Peter vividly depicts the changes in the place he called home as it was surrounded by army helicopter presence, shootings, rioting and bombings. How he avoided gangs by creeping to school at 6am and developed ways to walk, talk and sound like a Protestant. The devastation he experienced when his close school friend was shot and what happened when he was asked to join the IRA.

The narrative takes the reader through his formative years from eight until 18. It is written evocatively, insightfully and in the moment, with wit and warmth against the backdrop of a period that is increasingly of fascination to readers.
