The classic fragrance that has stood the test of time.
There are few perfumes as iconic as Chanel No. 5. At a time where the fragrance industry revolved around creating perfumes that emulated a single flower, Coco Chanel wanted to produce a fragrance that challenged this norm - for the new, modern woman. In 1921, perfumer Ernest Beaux created Chanel No. 5. While it featured a blend of floral notes, what made this fragrance truly stand out was its liberal use of aldehydes, giving the perfume its iconic clean, soapy smell.
The Little Guide to Chanel No. 5 is a delightful delve into its captivating history, its impact on the fragrance industry's trajectory and the scent's evolution over the years. With fascinating facts and insightful quotes, trace the story of the perfume that has defined the modern woman for over 100 years.

"It was what I was waiting for. A perfume like nothing else. A woman's perfume, with the scent of a woman."
Coco Chanel
The perfume got its name because it was the fifth sample of Ernest Beaux's creations, although some also suggest five was also Coco Chanel's lucky number.
