Nimble Books LLC: PT Boat Bases, Kartoniert / Broschiert

Klappentext

In today's world where logistics and supply chains dominate headlines understanding the challenges and triumphs of wartime base construction and operation offers valuable (and timely) insights. The US and an expansionist East Asian power are once again jockeying to acquire (and deny) access to the remote undeveloped and beautiful island bases in the Southwest Pacific described in this book. Similarly US Marine Corps is in the midst of rebuilding itself for a distributed mobile campaign focused on small and medium-sized transport very similar to the campaigns waged by the PTs in the Solomons and New Guinea.

For history enthusiasts WWII veterans and their families model builders and those interested in naval and military history this book provides a unique perspective on the Pacific War. Discover how the Seabees base personnel and local populations worked tirelessly under harsh conditions to build and maintain these vital hubs of activity.

PT Boat Bases explores the evolution of bases from makeshift camps to sophisticated facilities covering key locations such as Tulagi Rendova and Green Island. Through vivid descriptions and captivating photographs you'll witness the construction of docks repair shops and living quarters and gain an understanding of the complex logistical challenges faced.

Unique features include:

Extensive photographic record: Rare and previously unpublished photos bring the bases and their personnel to life. Detailed accounts of daily life: Explore the challenges and triumphs of those who served at these bases. Comprehensive overview of base construction and operations: Learn about the crucial role of the Seabees and the logistical infrastructure that supported PT boat squadrons.

While the exploits of PT boats have been well documented the logistical backbone that kept them operational remains largely unexplored. This book by PT expert Frank J. Andruss Sr. ("The Mosquito Fleet Exhibit") and former Naval Special Warfare Combatant Craft Crewman (SWCC) Ted Walther documents the crucial yet often overlooked role of PT boat bases in the Pacific theater of World War II.
