He overcame this and went to university, starting out as a research scientist before finding his calling working with disadvantaged and ethnic minority communities. QED Foundation, the Bradford-based national charity he set up in 1990, has helped thousands of people find work, start a business, go to college, or learn new skills - earning him an OBE in 2001. As he turns 70, Ali's still working hard, still helping people, and still turning challenges into opportunities.
