Klappentext
The monograph "Mauro Staccioli: Overcoming Barriers" offers a comprehensive re-evaluation of the life's work of one of the most significant pioneers of site-specific sculpture. This trilingual volume (English, French, and Italian), curated by Roberto Lacarbonara, accompanies the exhibition at the Fondation CAB in Brussels and Saint-Paul de Vence in 2027. Drawing on extensive, partly unpublished materials from Staccioli's Archive, authors such as Caterina Martinelli, Bruno Corà, Marica Antonucci, Duccio Nobili and Giuliano Sergio trace Staccioli's trajectory: from the brutalist concrete barriers of the 1970s-conceived as provocative signs of political resistance within urban spaces-to the fluid, open Corten steel forms of his later years. The contributions examine Staccioli's artistic practice within the context of Arte Povera and his integration into the European art landscape, highlighting his vision of a sculpture that transcends social and physical boundaries.
The project was possible thanks to the support of the Italian Council program (2025).
Mauro Staccioli (1937-2018), born in Volterra, shaped contemporary sculpture through his radical "interventions" in public space. His work represents a constant search for a balance between individual freedom, political activism, and a "golden" harmony with both architecture and nature.
