Martin Luther (1483-1546): Luther's Works, Volume 80 (House Postil I), Gebunden

Klappentext

Step inside Martin Luther's home and encounter his preaching in a unique setting.

Although Luther regularly preached throughout the Reformation, periods of poor health sometimes kept him from public ministry. During those seasons, he gathered family members, servants, and guests in his home to hear God's Word. These sermons, delivered primarily between 1532 and 1534 and preserved by Luther's colleague Veit Dietrich, offer a rare glimpse into Luther's teaching, pastoral care, and daily life.

Luther's Works, Volume 80: House Postil I presents Luther's sermons on the Gospel readings from Advent through Good Friday, revealing how he proclaimed Christ, interpreted Scripture, and applied God's Word to the lives of ordinary Christians. Written in clear, direct language, these sermons reflect the mature thought of one of Christianity's most influential reformers.

This volume includes:

• Luther's sermons on the Gospel readings from Advent through Good Friday
• A faithful English translation of the House Postil
• An extensive introduction exploring the history and publication of these sermons
• Insight into Luther's preaching, biblical interpretation, and pastoral theology
• A valuable resource for readers interested in Reformation history, Christian theology, and the legacy of Martin Luther

The volume's introduction examines Veit Dietrich's role in preserving the sermons, the publication history of the House Postil, and the debates surrounding competing editions after Luther's death. Together, the sermons and historical background provide a rich portrait of Luther's ministry and the central role of Scripture in Reformation-era Christianity.

Part historical source, part theological resource, Luther's Works, Volume 80 offers readers a unique opportunity to experience Luther's preaching as it was first heard and to explore the enduring influence of his teaching on the Christian faith.
