Martha Wells wurde im texanischen Forth Worth geboren und studierte Anthropologie an der Texas A&M University. Mit ihren Romanen um Ile-Rien, der Stadt der Geisterbeschwörung, hat sie sich in kürzester Zeit eine riesige Fan-Gemeinde erschrieben. Wells lebt mit ihrer Familie in College Station, Texas.
