Klappentext
Mercedes-Benz built just two 300 SLR Coupes. The variant is known as the "Uhlenhaut Coupe" as an homage to engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut. The two examples are most easily differentiated and identified by their interior colors; chassis number 7 is "Blue" and chassis number 8 is "Red." In 2022 the latter was sold to a private collector directly from Mercedes-Benz for 135 million euro, making it the most valuable car ever sold at the time of this publication in 2027.
This large-format volume showcases the Uhlenhaut Coupe with a mixture of modern art photography and wonderfully preserved vintage imagery of the cars in period. Text from several contributors helps put these two cars in historical context. After all, Blue and Red are road-legal prototypes built from 300 SLR race cars, with which they share the W 196 S chassis designation. They are two of what was intended to be 10 open-top race cars for the FIA World Sportscar Championship. The 300 SLR brought Mercedes-Benz some of the marque's greatest motorsport triumphs, but also its darkest hour.
The 300 SLR Coupe is not only the most valuable car in the world and a monument to its designer, it is a symbol of the engineering, design, and racing heritage of Mercedes-Benz.
