The owner of Gangrel Labs, Justin Timbers, a world renowned philanthropist, is highly respected and applauded for his efforts to improve humanity through innovation and cooperation. He also happens to be an Army veteran, one that personally reached out and offered the financially struggling Lack a position within the company as an armed security guard.

Things within the company are progressing smoothly as the staff doubled in size in the first six months Lack was on the job along with the rest of Richburg in the process. Lack had been so caught up in his own problems to notice all the changes that were taking place in the neighborhoods he had grown up in. His day to day entailed work, gym, apartment and repeat, since the week he had returned stateside. His own apartment remained mostly packed as he had been taking every extra shift available for the money.

During one of his nightly patrols through the research building, Lack walks in on an old high school friend, Devon Longroad, who is naked and about to start a sexual ritual on an unconscious female coworker who is bond to a chair and naked as well. An loud and violent exchange of gunshots later and both men lie bleeding out while the unconscious Portia remains tied up nearby.

Through a mixture of divine intervention and twisted fate Lack's eyes are opened to the spiritual world and all that entails, like how our souls are processed after we die. Can he adjust to this new world, while looking for answers to the mysterious plot unraveling around him, in the only city he has ever called home, or will the place of his birth end up being his final resting place?
