Klappentext
The 16th issue (II-2026) of the Journal of Ethnic Microhistory comprises seven articles.
- The journal opens with the eyewitness account of Lyudmila Lykholet, a Ukrainian refugee who survived in the bombed town of Vovchansk from February 2022 until 16 May 2024. During this time, she cared for abandoned pets.
- David Gevorkov, a native of Georgia who lived and worked in Ukraine for many years as a successful catering manager, describes his first years in Germany as a refugee. He and his wife were warmly welcomed by many Germans. However, some of the officials responsible for their integration have shown little empathy for their problems and aspirations. Nevertheless, David wants to ''be useful to Germany and pay taxes''.
- Sergei Miroshnichenko, a Ukrainian IT specialist, recounts his story. He has officially emigrated to Germany because of his illness and settled in Plauen.
- Irina Belyak, a Ukrainian librarian and graphic designer, shares her story. She believes that her paintings have the power to heal people emotionally. Her dream is to open a café displaying her work, where people can relax, drink tea and immerse themselves in art.
- The article, written by Alex Dreger and based on a publication in the German newspaper ''Wochenblatt für die Stadt und den Kreis Dortmund'' on 18 October 1845, recounts the excellent results achieved by pupils at the Jewish school in Dortmund.
- The article ''Abai on Human Maturation'', written by Prof. Dr. habil. Begman Iskak and Prof. Dr. habil. Ileskan Smanov, examines the current state and development prospects of the ethnic self-awareness of the Kazakh people. In their research, the authors draw upon the seminal work ''The Book of Words'' (Qara sözder) by the eminent Kazakh writer and philosopher Abai Qunanbaiuly (1845-1904). The article is written in Kazakh and is preceded by an English abstract.
- Some episodes of East-European Germans' (Russia-Germans') history are explored in the 1st part of micro-historical sketches by Walther Friesen. An important milestone in their history was the creation of the short-lived multinational, multi-confessional federation the ''Khanate of Kazan - Tsardom of Russia - Kingdom of Livonia''. The Germans made significant contributions to the establishment of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the first Russian newspaper, which was published in German. They held advanced positions in the Russian army.
